Christmas has come.. late?

Definitely one of those girls who cannot resist a good sale. I've been looking for a Christmas style jumper for ages, and it's just typical that I find one after the date. But never mind, it was in the sale so happy days! It's a few sizes bigger than I would normally wear, but I think it looks better for it. Perfect.

Another sale bargain. I loved the shape of the frills at the front. Only thing is, it's a bit big under the arms so I've undertaken it as my project for the Christmas holidays, take in the side seams and sort out the darts. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on!

THE dress

So I've been pretty busy at work at the moment, no-one likes the idea of working a full day on Boxing day, no-one. But on the plus side, I've got the dress I've wanted for weeks! Can't wait to wear it with bright blue heels from Zara, it'll be the perfect outfit.

Customer & Mood

Back to Margiela! Customers are important, they buy the stuff we make. So naturally, we investigated who the customer at Margiela is. But, Margiela is an anonymous designer and the customers are equally as anonymous. Annoying. But we did manage to see two customers in the shop in London, so this really helped us with our idea of the customer. This is what we came up with.

So we chose images that didn't restrict the customer, but instead made it a broad range that could cover every possible customer. The profiles are similar, yet different; varying between the male and female.

Adobe Illustrator.
So for one of our modules this year, we were getting used to Illustrator on the computer. It was all pretty much new to me and took a whole load of practise before I was anywhere near competent on the program, but I finally got somewhere. Although I wouldn't call myself an expert yet!

Here we were told to experiment with stripes on garments, so I decided to do my stripes using a paint brush effect rather than generic block stripes. I've also tried to use different colour ways to show how the colours might match together.
These are my designs for an Abercrombie and Fitch hoody. I did a bit extra and experimented with a logo for the range of hoodies too. These took a bit of practise to get them to look 3D, but they were eventually drawn free hand on Illustrator.
This was a shirt that I designed using Illustrator. I've tried to make it more interesting but adding stitch detailing on the shoulders and cuffs, rather than being a standard shirt.

Finally this a jacket I designed and put a floral print on for experimenting on Illustrator with fill patterns. Not sure the pattern is entirely suitable.. but it showed me how to use the pattern button properly!

Trend -- Maison Martin Margiela, A/W 11/12

So for our Design Development module, we researched the designer (Margiela) and possible
trend ideas after looking into current themes and culture. We chose to do a mixture trend because Margiela is not a slave to trends.

This is what we came up with -- men's and
women's trend boards.

We used a grid system to lay our boards out, spreading photographs over various boxes to
create the board.

Maison Martin Margiela, if only!

Just seen this on Margiela's website, definitely needed this winter. And it would go so well with my grey coat! Shame about the price.. Although I could definitely make my own.

Bomber Jacket

So for our Garment Technology project, we've designed and created a men's bomber jacket. It's almost finished here, after a massive effort (and many 9am starts).
